About Chopard Watches:

Chopard watches—a stunning marriage of refined luxury and innovative techniques that has lasted for over 150 years thus far and promises to keep on striving. From their unique Chopard Happy Diamonds collection, featuring “floating diamonds” encased in transparent sapphire crystal, to their Chopard Mille Miglia watch line, dedicated to Chopard’s partnership with the Italian rally event, Chopard watches continue to amaze the world with their brilliant designs and accurate technology.

In 1860, a young craftsman by the name of Louis-Ulysse Chopard, began his watch workshop in the tiny village of Sonvilier in Switzerland. The reliability of his timepieces garnered a growing status amongst watch-enthusiasts from across Europe, marking the beginning of Chopard’s shining reputation. Paul Louis Chopard, the son of Louis-Ulysse, then expanded Chopard in 1921 by opening a branch in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which eventually became their headquarters. He moved the company once again in 1937 to the capital of Fine Watchmaking, Geneva, where Chopard watches could better reach its consumers. In 1943, Chopard once again switched hands to Louis-Ulysse’s grandson, Paul André Chopard. However, the family tradition ended there when each of Paul André’s sons declined to take over the company.

In 1963, Paul André Chopard met Karl Scheufele, a young goldsmith and watchmaker, who then offered to purchase the company. Scheufele oversaw considerable contributions to the growth of Chopard watches, such as adding the Chopard ladies’ watch collections and jewelry section to Chopard. To this very day, he is still active as the president of Chopard. Today, Karl Scheufele’s children are also the current co-presidents of Chopard. His daughter, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele serves as head of both the ladies’ watch collections and high jewellery departments, while Karl Friedrich Scheufele, her brother, directs the gents’ watch collections and the Chopard Manufacture located in Fleurier, whereChopard L.U.C. movements are produced.

Chopard has contributed to more than just horology and fashion: their charity cannot be overlooked, especially their activity in the fight against AIDS alongside Sir Elton John, for whom they have dedicated an entire Chopard watch collection called Elton John.
